A social media user has been sentenced to two years imprisonment for spreading false information about the daughter of Nigerian singers Adekunle Gold and Simi.
The convict, Samuel Adeboye Adeyeye, popularly known on X as Swanky_concept, was found guilty of cyberbullying and defamation after making a false post about the couple’s daughter, Deja.
In the viral post, Samuel wrote, “My sincere condolences to the Adekunle family. Rip to Deja,” falsely insinuating that the child was dead.
He was arraigned in court on May 14, where he pleaded guilty to the charges.
The court subsequently sentenced him to two years imprisonment on May 15.
Following the ruling, several X users described the sentence as a warning against the spread of misinformation, cyberbullying, and defamatory content on social media platforms.
