Minister of Works, David Umahi, has revealed fresh details surrounding the death of Mary Habila, the nurse who was found dead at his residence in Uburu, Ebonyi State.
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, Umahi said Habila had spoken with her boyfriend shortly before she died on June 27 and complained of bleeding from her nose.
The minister described the deceased, an employee of the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital in Ebonyi, as “like a daughter” to him and his family, adding that she had worked closely with him for about three years.
Umahi also clarified that Habila was a nurse employed by the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, Ebonyi State, and not a physiotherapist as widely reported.
He further disclosed that she had been receiving treatment for an existing health condition at a hospital in Turkey and said he personally paid her medical bills.
Habila’s death has sparked nationwide outrage, with many Nigerians calling for an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
