Ten corps members who were abducted by gunmen in Egume Forest, Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State, have been rescued by a joint team of security operatives.
The rescue was carried out by personnel from the police, military, Department of State Services (DSS) and other auxiliary forces.
The Kogi State Police Command said the operation was sustained and intelligence-driven, with the aim of securing the victims, dismantling criminal groups operating in the area and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
However, the Command said the operation is still ongoing as security forces intensify efforts to locate and rescue the remaining victims.
Recall Dockaysworld reported that the abduction of corp members had caused an uproar with family members crying out on social media.
The security agencies are also pursuing the perpetrators responsible for the attack.
The Commissioner of Police commended the personnel involved in the operation, describing their efforts as “gallant, professional and resilient.”
He also acknowledged the support of residents in the affected communities, particularly those who provided timely and credible information, which he said was critical to the success of the operation.
The police urged members of the public to remain calm and vigilant and to report suspicious movements or information that could assist the ongoing operation.
The Command assured residents that all available operational resources were being deployed to rescue the remaining victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
The latest rescue followed an earlier attack reported by the police on Friday, in which 11 people, including an unspecified number of NYSC members, were rescued after gunmen attacked vehicles along the Aloma–Egane Expressway.
The abduction occurred at about 4:40 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, around Ogene Zaria, near the Ogene Zaria–Onicha-Igo Junction.
According to the Kogi State Police Command, the armed men emerged from the bush and blocked two buses travelling in opposite directions, abducting some passengers while others escaped into the surrounding bush.
