The Nigerian Police Command of Akwa-Ibom state has confirmed the detention of a 10-year-old boy, Bright James, for allegedly assaulting a 3-year-old girl.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the boy was taken into custody following an investigation, which included medical evidence supporting the claims.
The police stated that Bright James admitted to the crime voluntarily.
“The case is under investigation, and the suspect has confessed without any pressure. He will be formally charged in court on Monday, February 10, 2025,” DSP John said.
The police also stated that no illegal actions or mistreatment took place during the detention.
They urged the public to avoid spreading false information and to allow the legal process to proceed.
Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, assured that the case would be handled lawfully to ensure justice is served.
