16 Nigerian soldiers murdered in Delta

Sixteen military personnels on a peace mission to the Okuama community in Delta State have been killed by hoodlums.

According to a press statement released by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Acting Director of Defence Information at the Defence Headquarters, the troops, belonging to the 181 Amphibious Battalion, were en route to Bomadi Local Government Area when they were ambushed by community youths on Thursday, March 14th, 2024.

The troops had responded to a distress call stemming from a communal crisis between the Okuama and Okoloba communities.

Tragically, the confrontation led to the deaths of the Commanding officer, two Majors, one Captain, and 12 Soldiers.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has swiftly ordered an immediate investigation into the incident and called for the apprehension of those responsible for the heinous crime.

The Delta State Government has been duly informed of the incident.

His words: ”The unfortunate incident occurred when the troops responded to a distress call after the communal crisis between the Okuama and Okoloba communities both in Delta State.

”The reinforcement team led by the Commanding officer was also attacked, leading to the death of the Commanding officer, two Majors, one Captain and 12 Soldiers.

”The Chief of Defence Staff ( CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa has has directed the immediate investigation and arrest of those involved in the heinous crime. The occurrence has been reported to the Delta State Government.

”However, the military remains focused and committed to its mandate of maintaining peace and security in the country.

”So far, a few arrests have been made, while steps in place to unravel the motive behind the attack.”
