Rap and business mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has been sentenced to 50 months(4 years) in federal prison after being convicted on two counts of transporting women across state lines for prostitution under the Mann Act.
The music mogul, 55, faced up to 20 years behind bars on the charges, which came after a two-month trial earlier this year.
Recall A New York jury acquitted him of more serious allegations, including sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy, but still found him guilty on the lesser counts.
During Friday’s sentencing hearing, prosecutors pushed for a far harsher penalty, arguing that Combs had shown no remorse.
Defense lawyers pleaded for leniency, noting Combs’ deteriorating health and his mentorship of inmates during his 13 months in custody.
In a personal letter submitted the night before sentencing, Combs apologized for “the hurt and pain” he caused and promised never to reoffend.
The trial featured more than 30 witnesses who accused Combs of violent behavior, drug use, and coercive sexual encounters.
Combs was denied bail following the verdict and will continue serving his sentence, though his legal team has vowed to appeal.
