The Christian community in Nigeria has been thrown into mourning following the deaths of two pastors from different denominations within 24 hours.
In Ekiti, the Catholic Diocese announced the passing of its Bishop Emeritus, Most Rev. Michael Olatunji Fagun, who died late on Monday, October 13, 2025, at the age of 90.
Born on April 17, 1935, Bishop Fagun was ordained in 1965 and consecrated as bishop in 1971.
He became the first to lead the Catholic Diocese of Ekiti, playing a major role in strengthening the faith and guiding the growth of the Church across the region.
The Diocese described his death as a peaceful transition and urged the faithful to pray for the repose of his soul.
Details of his burial will be announced later.
In a separate development, the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) confirmed the death of Rev. Anthony Lamba, who was kidnapped by bandits in Southern Kaduna on July 24, 2025.
He was abducted alongside his wife while working on their farm.
Although his wife regained freedom after a ransom was paid, Rev. Lamba remained in captivity, where he reportedly took ill and died before help could reach him.
A memorial service for the late cleric will be held in his hometown, Kallah, on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
This follows the recent passing of popular evangelist Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, who died on Monday, October 6.
