Former DSS agents linked to fraud arrested

The Department of State Services (DSS) says it has arrested two dismissed operatives who were previously linked to fraudulent activities while posing as personnel of the agency.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Service identified the suspects as Barry Donald and Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, noting that both had earlier been disclaimed for impersonating the DSS to defraud unsuspecting citizens.

The agency said the men have now been apprehended and will face prosecution in accordance with the law. It added that the arrests followed ongoing efforts to protect the public from individuals using the Service’s name for criminal purposes.

To further curb such incidents, the DSS announced plans to publish the names of other previously dismissed officers, warning Nigerians to remain cautious and verify the identity of anyone claiming to represent the agency.

“The public is hereby notified that these culprits have been apprehended and will face prosecution in accordance with the law. The Service has further resolved to publish the names of other personnel, who were dismissed in the past, to prevent citizens from falling victim of possible criminal intent of any of these individuals,” the statement read.
