The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed former Anambra lawmaker, Ben Obi, as the new secretary of its National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) ahead of the party’s 2025 elective national convention.
The announcement was made by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja on Wednesday through its publicity secretary, Debo Ologunagba.
The PDP said Obi would take over from Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, who recently left the opposition party to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The PDP’s national convention is scheduled to take place on November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The NWC expressed satisfaction with the efforts of the NCOC, led by Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, to ensure a smooth and credible exercise.
Party members and stakeholders were urged to remain united and committed to the successful conduct of the convention and the continued growth of the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Meanwhile the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Forum of Chairmen has suspended the Imo State chairman, Austine Nwachukwu, and his Abia counterpart, Amah Nnana, for attempting to stop the party’s forthcoming national convention through a court order.
The forum reached the decision on Wednesday during a meeting at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
The suspended chairmen, both said to be allies of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, are among those who went to court seeking to halt the PDP’s elective convention slated for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan.
Edo PDP chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, who now leads the forum, announced that the group has passed a vote of confidence in the National Working Committee led by acting national chairman Umar Damagum.
He added that the forum is united in supporting the party’s preparations for the convention and its broader goal of regaining power at the federal level.
