The Federal Government has appointed Professor Farouk Haruna as the first substantive Vice Chancellor of the newly upgraded Federal University of Education, Kontagora, located in Niger State.
The decision followed the fifth meeting of the university’s Governing Council, chaired by Pro-Chancellor Professor Francis Faduyile.
Professor Haruna was selected after a competitive process that involved six shortlisted candidates.
He brings extensive experience from previous roles, including Acting Vice Chancellor, Provost, and Chairman of the Committee of Provosts.
He is set to take office on Monday, November 4, 2025.
The Pro-Chancellor assured staff, students, and parents that Kontagora remains a safe and peaceful environment for living and learning.
He said that the university is one of the fastest-growing teacher education institutions in Nigeria, with a strong faculty of Ph.D. holders and modern facilities.
The Federal University of Education, Kontagora, began as a College of Education before being upgraded to a university in 2021.
The institution started admitting students in March 2025.
