Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), after dumping the PDP days ago.
The governor received his APC membership card on Friday in Jos from the party’s state chairman, Rufus Bature.
Welcoming Mutfwang into the party, the APC national chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, released a statement seen by Dockaysworld.
He said the governor’s decision reflected a commitment to higher national and state interests.
“On behalf of the National Working Committee and the entire family of the All Progressives Congress, I warmly welcome His Excellency, Governor Caleb Mutfwang, into our great party, the APC,” he said.
He described the defection as a bold and patriotic step, driven by a higher calling to serve the people of Plateau State and Nigeria.
He added that that the registration symbolised “a statement of hope and a commitment to a shared vision of inclusive development, peace, and prosperity for Plateau State.”
“We receive you with open arms and a deep sense of partnership, and I assure you of our collective resolve to work closely with you, hand in hand to advance the interests of Plateau State, strengthen our party, and deliver meaningful dividends of democracy to our people,” the chairman added, welcoming the governor “home to the APC.”
Speaking during the event to receive his membership, Mutfwang said his defection was motivated by the need to move Plateau State forward, assuring residents of inclusive governance despite the change in party.
“The journey we are embarking on is a journey of faith, and I believe that Plateau will reap the dividends of this union,” he said. “I know there are skeptics, but I say be patient. Time will reveal everything.”
Addressing those apprehensive about the move, the governor added, “To the fearful, I say take courage, fear no more, because we have come for good. We have come to join hands; we have come to work together.”
Mutfwang thanked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), his former party, for providing a platform for his political journey, noting that his defection to the APC would spur him to provide qualitative leadership to the state.
With Mutfwang’s defection, over 25 governors are now in the APC.
