2027 election not my priority – Gov Otti says

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has said that speculations about the 2027 general election are not of immediate importance to him, stressing that his focus remains on fixing the state.

The governor made the remarks on Saturday during a church service at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Umuikaa District Headquarters, Isialangwa South Local Government Area, where he worshipped alongside his wife, Priscilla Chidinma.

“I am not bothered about 2027 as the God that settled 2023 would equally settle 2027,” Otti said.

He added that his government would not be distracted by criticism or political noise, insisting that governance, not politics, remains his priority.

“This government will continue to do the right thing. No one, or group of people, whoever they are, none of them is entitled to distract us,” the governor stated.

“So, when they make noise, like I said last week, we should not be bothered about noise. We should just remain focused and do what we have to do.

“Sometimes, I worry if it is the 2027 election they are talking about, or maybe there’s another election coming up, but the same way God delivered me in 2023, that is the way he will deliver me in 2027,” he added.

Otti also apologised to residents for the inconvenience caused by dust along the Umuikaa Junction–Owerrinta Road due to ongoing rehabilitation works, noting that such challenges were part of development.

“As you can see, we are at the final stages of dualising this road. It is a federal road but we got approval from the Federal Government to reconstruct and dualise the road,” he said.

He disclosed that similar work was ongoing on the Onuimo–Tower Road, explaining that the aim was to ensure that “any time you get into Abia State, you know you’ve gotten into Abia State.”

Recall Otti remains one of the few opposition governors and the only one from Labour Party. A group of ex-governors have vowed to ensure that he is defeated in 2027, including plans to sue him for operating government from private residence.
