Nigerian music stars Davido, Burna Boy and Ayra Starr missed out on wins at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards as South African singer Tyla clinched the win for Best African Music Performance.
This is Tyla’s second time winning the award after doing same in 2024, edging out numerous Nigerian stars as well.
The 68th Annual Grammy Awards were held on February 1, 2026, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, bringing together top music acts from around the world.
The Best African Music Performance category, introduced in 2024 to recognise recordings that showcase African music, once again placed African artists in the global spotlight.
The night was also historic for hip-hop, as Kendrick Lamar officially surpassed Jay-Z to become the rapper with the most Grammy Awards in history.
Kendrick Lamar now holds a total of 26 Grammy wins following multiple victories at this year’s ceremony.
The Grammys also honoured late Nigerian music icon Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, who received a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award during a special ceremony held the night before the main event.
Fela’s recognition was acknowledged by the Nigerian Presidency, showing his enduring legacy as a global pioneer of Afrobeat and musical activism.
