The Edo State Police Command has launched an intensive rescue operation following the abduction of three passengers from a GUO Transport bus along the Ore–Benin highway.
The attack occurred on April 18 at about 6:00 p.m. near the Iguobazuwa axis. The bus was conveying five passengers when it was ambushed by suspected kidnappers.
The police said the driver was shot during the incident and later died from his injuries.
A female passenger who sustained gunshot wounds was rescued and taken to hospital, where she is receiving treatment and responding positively.
Three other passengers were abducted and taken into a nearby forest.
The Commissioner of Police in Edo State, Monday Agbonika, has ordered a coordinated search and rescue operation across the Ore–Benin axis and surrounding forests.
Tactical teams, including operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, have been deployed and are working with local hunters and vigilantes to track down the assailants and rescue the victims.
The body of the deceased driver has been deposited at a hospital mortuary, while the vehicle has been recovered.
The police said efforts are ongoing to ensure the victims are rescued and the perpetrators brought to justice, urging members of the public to provide useful information to support the operation.
