A member of the Florida House of Representatives, Kimberly Daniels, has accused Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, of trying to bribe a United States official with money.
The allegation was made public on Monday, April 21, 2026, through a video Daniels shared on her official Facebook page, where she spoke about the issue and her concerns.
Daniels claimed that Matawalle’s alleged move was to cover up the United World Congress of Diplomats (UN-WCD) report on Christian genocide in Nigeria, which indicted him.
According to her, the situation in parts of Nigeria has raised serious concerns, with repeated attacks recorded in states like Plateau, Kaduna, and Nasarawa, particularly around the Easter period in 2026.
These incidents led to loss of lives and further worries about safety in those areas.
Daniels, who is also linked with the UN-WCD, said she believes attempts are being made to weaken the impact of the report and shift public attention away from its findings. She maintained that she would continue to speak on the matter despite any pressure.
“A US elected official was offered money by Nigeria’s minister of state defense, Bello Matawalle, to change the narrative of the UN-WCD Christian genocide in Nigeria report,” she said in the viral video.
Before now, Daniels had called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take action by removing or redeploying Matawalle due to concerns about the security situation and his alleged connection to the issues raised.
As of the time of this report, Matawalle has not released any official response to the accusation made by the US lawmaker.
