The Federal Government has announced Friday, May 1, 2026, as a public holiday to mark this year’s Workers Day celebration across Nigeria.
The announcement was made through the Ministry of Interior by the Minister, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. He conveyed the message on behalf of the Federal Government and congratulated workers in different sectors of the country ahead of the celebration.
According to the Ministry, the Minister praised Nigerian workers for their steady effort and commitment to national growth. He said their daily work plays an important role in the progress of the country and helps in building the economy.
He also called on workers to remain focused in their duties and to show strong commitment to their jobs. He added that discipline, hard work, and love for the country are important for national development and stability.
The Federal Government also restated its commitment to improving the welfare of workers and ensuring a safe and supportive environment that can help businesses and the economy grow.
The Minister further encouraged Nigerians to use the Workers Day holiday as a time to think about unity and the need to work together for national development. He urged citizens to remain peaceful and obey the law during and after the celebration.
Workers Day is celebrated every year to recognise the effort of workers in both public and private sectors and to appreciate their contribution to national development.
