Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has approved the dismissal of ASP Nuhu Usman and other officers involved in the alleged extra-judicial killing of Mene Ogidi in Effurun, Delta State.
The decision followed recommendations by the Force Disciplinary Committee, according to a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer Anthony Placid.
Recall activist Harrison Gwamnishu had shred a video which showed the moment police officers had held the handcuffed young men before shooting and killing him in cold blood.
The police said the officers would also face prosecution after ratification by the Police Service Commission.
Findings showed the principal officer acted in “gross violation” of Force Order 237 and other firearm regulations, with authorities describing the conduct as unlawful and unprofessional.
“The Inspector-General of Police has approved the recommendations,” the statement said, noting the officers would be handed over for prosecution after administrative procedures.
The police reiterated a zero-tolerance stance on extra-judicial actions, stressing that “no uniform confers the right to take life outside the provisions of the law.”
Disu also extended condolences to the family of the deceased, assuring that justice would be served and seen to be served.
