Federal Lawmaker Dies In Abuja


Lawmaker representing Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Yaya Bauchi Tongo is dead.

He died on Friday at a hospital in Abuja where he had been battling an illness.

The deceased lawmaker served as Chairman of Funakaye Local Government Area, Special Adviser to the Government of Gombe State, and Member of the Gombe State House of Assembly before his election into House of Representatives.

He was Chairman of the Nigeria–United Arab Emirates Parliamentary Friendship Group in the House of Representatives.

He was known for his work at the grassroots level and his involvement in constituency projects aimed at community development in Gombe State.

The Gombe State Government reacted to the news with sadness.

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya described the late lawmaker as a committed public servant who worked closely with his constituents and focused on local development.

He also said Tongo’s death is a painful loss to the state and the country.

He had previously served in different political roles, including local government and state-level positions, before becoming a federal lawmaker under the PDP platform.

The governor prayed for the forgiveness of his shortcomings and asked God to grant him eternal rest, while also calling for strength for his family, colleagues, and supporters to bear the loss.
