Top 2027 presidential candidate slumps in Abuja
The 2027 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) Omoyele Sowore reportedly collapsed during a Democracy Day protest in Abuja after security operatives dispersed demonstrators with tear gas.
According to Vanguard, the incident happened on Friday at Unity Fountain, where Sowore and other activists gathered to protest issues such as insecurity, economic hardship and governance challenges facing the country.
The protest was interrupted when security personnel moved in and fired tear gas canisters at the crowd.
The action caused confusion among protesters, forcing many people to run for safety while others struggled with the effects of the gas.
Witnesses said Sowore was among those exposed to the tear gas during the confrontation.
He was later said to have fallen unconscious as the situation around the protest ground became tense.
Supporters and fellow protesters quickly attended to him and moved him away from the area.
He regained consciousness while being transported from the protest venue. He was later taken to a hospital for medical examination and treatment.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities had not released an official statement regarding the incident, while details about Sowore’s condition remained unknown.
