Senator Dino Melaye loses senatorial seat to Smart Adeyemi of APC

Senator Dino Melaye has lost his seat as senator representing Kogi West senatorial district after been defeated by Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressive Party (APC)

The returning officer, Olayinde Lawal made this declaration yesterday at the end of the election.

According to Lawal, accreditation and voting started at 8:15 a.m at Inuwa Lenge Open Space PU 04 in Lokoja. The APC candidate, Smart Adeyemi got a total of 88,373 votes to defeat senator Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), his closest opponent who had a total of 62,133 votes, making Smart Adeyemi of APC party emerge winner of the election.

It should be recalled that the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier canceled the previous election following some irregularities with the results hence a rerun.

The winner, Smart Adeyemi had lost the senatorial position to Dino Melaye in 2015 and have taken over now after 4 years.
