Senator Melaye is currently being held in a police health facility in Abuja.

The Senator’s lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN) filled an application for bail on grounds of ill health which Justice Yusuf Halilu granted after his argument.

Justice Halilu ruled that the Senator needed to be healthy to stand trial and as he could not be arraigned on a sick bed or stretcher, he would grant the Senator bail to see to his health before the trial could hold.

Senator Melaye had slumped at the Police headquarters and was promptly moved to a police clinic. Amidst concerns of his rising BP he was moved once again.

The judge asked him to produce three sureties, one of who must be the Clerk of the National Assembly, who must undertake to produce him when he is to be arraigned in respect of a charge already filed against him.

The judge said the other two sureties must be owners of properties within the Abuja metropolis.
