Nigeria’s Minister of Works and former Ebonyi State Governor, Senator David Umahi, has said that all South-East Governors are in support of President Bola Tinubu.
He made this statement during a visit to Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, where he also praised the governor for reconstructing several federal roads with high-quality standards, particularly the Port Harcourt Road in Aba.
Umahi commended the long-standing relationship between President Tinubu and Governor Otti, saying that the President is already carrying out many developmental projects in the South-East.
He urged people in the region, regardless of political party, to support President Tinubu, whom he believes is committed to improving the South-East and bringing the region into the federal mainstream.
While thanking Governor Otti for not ignoring federal roads in his state projects, Umahi especially applauded the quality of the recently completed Port Harcourt Road handled by Julius Berger, describing the transformation as “mind-blowing.”
He said he had visited the state without prior notice to quietly inspect federal projects being handled and was impressed by what he saw.
The Minister also revealed plans for President Tinubu to visit Abia State and personally commission the completed road projects.
He thanked Otti for helping facilitate the progress of construction on the Port Harcourt–Enugu Expressway, which had previously faced setbacks before Otti assumed office.
Umahi urged the governor to look into completing the other side of the expressway and possibly retain the same contractor for consistency.
In response, Governor Otti confirmed his willingness to continue partnering with the federal government for the benefit of Abia residents.
He noted that when infrastructure is delivered, it is a win for the people regardless of which level of government executes the project.
He explained that the original date for the road commissioning was postponed because President Tinubu had to attend the inauguration of the new Pope at the Vatican, but a new date will be fixed soon.
Governor Otti also recounted how he had earlier sought the President’s approval to fix several deteriorating federal roads in Abia, including the Ohafia-Arochukwu and Onuimo-Umuahia roads.
He promised to instruct the state Commissioner for Works to assess the condition of the remaining section of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, as requested by Umahi.
