Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has won the state’s governorship election, securing another term in office.
The State Returning Officer, Prof Joshua Ogunwole, declared Adeleke the winner at about 7:24am on Sunday at the collation centre.
Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord, polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 444,815 votes.
The governor won in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victory in 11.
Adeleke won in Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo, Iwo, Egbedore, Ife North, Ife East, Ife Central, Oriade, Ifelodun, Orolu, Ayedaade, Ayedire, Odo Otin, Boluwaduro, Ilesa West, Ifedayo and Osogbo.
Oyebamiji won in Irewole, Isokan, Olorunda, Atakumosa East, Atakumosa West, Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun and Obokun.
Ogunwole said 1,005,800 votes were cast, with 985,079 recorded as valid votes and 20,721 either rejected or otherwise not counted as valid.
He declared Adeleke the winner after agents of the participating political parties signed the election results.
The ADC candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third in the election.
