The All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in Ahiaukwu Ward 2, Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State have suspended the party’s State Secretary, Chidi Avajah, over alleged violations of the party’s constitution.
The decision was made during a meeting held at Okaiuga Civic Hall, Okwu Olokoro, and led by the acting Ward Chairman, Ndumele Nwabueze.
Alongside Avajah, Mr. Onyekwere Sylvester was also suspended for allegedly posing as the acting Ward Chairman without proper authority.
The Ward leaders accused Avajah of taking control of the party by appointing a new acting Ward Chairman on his own, following the death of the previous one, instead of allowing congress-elected officials to handle the process.
They cited specific sections of the APC constitution that Avajah was said to have violated, including failing to pay his monthly party dues.
A seven-member disciplinary committee has been formed to investigate the allegations.
This comes shortly after former governor Senator Orji Uzor Kalu hosted a reconciliation meeting in Abuja, urging unity within the Abia APC as the 2027 elections approach.
