Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has sacked political appointees in the state as part of changes ahead of the start of his second term in office.
The governor approved the immediate termination of appointments of Special Assistants, Senior Special Assistants and Technical Assistants serving in his administration.
He also ordered the dissolution of boards, commissions and parastatals across the state.
The development was announced in a statement issued on Sunday by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode.
According to the statement, the decision was taken as Oyebanji’s first term gradually comes to an end ahead of the inauguration of his second term scheduled for October 16, 2026.
However, the sack and dissolution do not affect chairmen and members of certain statutory boards.
Those exempted include the State Independent Electoral Commission, Civil Service Commission, House of Assembly Service Commission and Judicial Service Commission.
The governing councils of all state-owned tertiary institutions will also remain in place, following earlier directives from the governor.
The chairmen of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Local Government Service Commission and Teaching Service Commission will also retain their positions despite the dissolution of the boards under their agencies.
Directors-General and Technical Advisers to the governor are also not affected by the termination of appointments.
Oyebanji thanked the affected political appointees for their contributions to his administration and their service to the state.
He wished them success in their future endeavours as the state prepares for the governor’s second term.
