A federal high court in Abuja has stopped the Senate committee on ethics, privileges, and public petitions from taking disciplinary action against Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the senator representing Kogi Central.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu issued the ruling on Tuesday after Akpoti-Uduaghan’s lawyers filed an ex parte application.
The senator had been summoned by the committee after a heated exchange with Senate President Godswill Akpabio during a plenary session on February 20.
During the session, Akpoti-Uduaghan refused to accept her assigned seat and repeatedly challenged Akpabio’s decisions, even after being overruled.
Following the incident, the Senate referred her case to the disciplinary committee for review.
In a recent interview on Arise TV, Akpoti-Uduaghan claimed that her troubles in the Senate started after she rejected unwanted advances from Akpabio.
The legal battle now puts a hold on any disciplinary action while the matter unfolds.
