The legal battle over the removal of Hon. Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly continued on Friday at the State High Court in Ikeja.
The case has now been adjourned to Monday, March 10, for the hearing of all pending applications.
Justice Yetunde Pinheiro, who is presiding over the case, instructed all parties involved to submit the necessary legal documents before the next court session.
The Deputy Speaker and 36 other lawmakers have requested the court to dismiss the case, arguing that the matter is now irrelevant.
Meanwhile, two new lawyers, Olusola Idowu (SAN) and Clement Onwuenwunor, have joined the case, representing some of the lawmakers.
After listening to all legal representatives, Justice Pinheiro postponed the case to ensure a fair hearing for all parties.
Outside the courtroom, Obasa’s lawyer, Afolabi Fashanu (SAN), told reporters that his client is not only challenging his removal over procedural issues but also denying the allegations against him.
These include accusations of fraud, abuse of office, and misconduct, which he claims were made without giving him a chance to defend himself.
On the other hand, Romeo Michael, a lawyer representing 34 lawmakers who have joined the case, argued that Obasa’s removal was lawful and in line with the Nigerian Constitution.
The court will now resume the hearing on March 10 to address these arguments.
