Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has endorsed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, ahead of the Edo State governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024.
His public show of support is noteworthy, considering his family’s deep connection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Bashir voiced his backing of Ighodalo on social media, sparking discussions within political circles due to the unusual nature of an El-Rufai aligning with an opposition figure.
Ighodalo, a former Sterling Bank board chairman, has been gaining increased attention as the election day approaches.
The election scheduled for Saturday is expected to be a close contest between the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, Asue Igbhodalo, Senator Monday Okopebholo of the All Progressives Congress and Barr. Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party.
