Former federal lawmaker dies few days to birthday


A former Federal lawmaker, Wole Duro Diya is dead.

Wole Diya represented Shomolu Federal Constituency (Lagos State) in the Green Chamber.

He died on Friday morning, few days to his 64th birthday slated for  Tuesday, 20 August, 2024.

The cause of death cannot be ascertained but Western Post reports that he had been battling a heart-related disease.

Wole Diya

He was the younger brother to late former Chief of Defence Staff, Oladipo Diya.

Recall that Oladipo Diya, a former Chief of Staff under the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, died in March 2023.

Diya was appointed Chief of General Staff in 1993 and Vice Chairman of the Provisional Ruling Council in 1994.

He was second in command and the de facto vice president of Nigeria under Abacha from 1994 as the Chief of the General Staff.

He lost his wife, Folashade, in 2020.
