The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has warned motorists against fraudulent text messages claiming they have new road traffic offence records.
The Corps said the messages direct recipients to a fake website, including “frscgov.top/ng”, which it stressed has no affiliation with FRSC.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday, the scam messages create urgency by asking recipients to click a link to review alleged offences. The links, FRSC warned, may be designed to steal personal or financial information.
Dockaysworld observed that a number of Nigerians have taken to X, to lament being scammed hundreds of thousands through the scam.
The Corps advised motorists not to click suspicious links, make payments or disclose banking details, passwords, driver’s licence or vehicle registration information in response to such messages.
Motorists were urged to verify traffic offences through official FRSC channels, including its website and toll-free line 122, while preserving and reporting suspicious messages.
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed directed increased public awareness of the scam and urged Nigerians to “STOP. VERIFY. REPORT.”
