Gunmen kidnap Catholic priest in Zamfara


Gunmen suspected to be bandits have kidnapped Rev. Fr. Mikah Suleiman, a Catholic priest, in Zamfara.

Suleiman who serves as the parish priest of St. Raymond Catholic Church in Damba, Gusau, was whisked away from rectory within the church premises in the early hours of Saturday.

The Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, headed by Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah, confirmed the abduction in a statement signed by the Diocese’s acting Chancellor, Very Revd. Fr. Nuhu Iliya.

The Diocese expressed concern over the frequent kidnappings of priests nationwide.

He lamented on the escalating security challenges faced by religious communities.

St. Raymond Catholic Church Damba is located five kilometers from Gusau, the capital of Zamfara state.

In recent times, the Damba community has experienced numerous bandit attacks, resulting in multiple abductions and prompting many residents to flee to safer areas.
