The Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria in Benue State, Alhaji Ardo Risku, and his son, Ibrahim, have been killed by suspected local militia members in Benue State.
The attack was said to have happened near Ahimeni in the Okodu area.
The victims were on their way home after attending a peace meeting in Otukpo, which was meant to support calm relations between communities.
The meeting was part of efforts to reduce tension and promote peaceful living among groups in the area.
The attack on their return has added more concern to the already tense security situation in parts of the state.
Residents described the killing as painful, pointing out that it happened shortly after a gathering focused on peace and dialogue.
The incident has again drawn attention to the rising cases of violence in different communities in Benue State.
Community voices have also called for caution against linking criminal acts to any ethnic group.
They said responsibility should remain with those directly involved in such attacks, not entire communities.
They added that many Fulani people live peacefully and contribute to society, and should not be blamed for the actions of violent individuals.
Security agencies have not yet released an official response on the incident, while efforts are believed to be ongoing to track those behind the attack.
It shows that people are gradually learning. Often times when you hear those criminal elements in Nigeria call for peace it is either they are weak and wants to rearm or they want to deceive. I have said severally that such is not good for anyone.
