The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it is yet to receive the Certified True Copy of a recent judgment from the Federal High Court in Lokoja concerning the registration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The commission explained on Saturday that it is aware of reports about the ruling delivered on June 26, 2026, but cannot take any position until it gets the official court document.
The commission noted that it will only study and respond to the matter after its legal team receives and reviews the Certified True Copy of the judgment.
It added that any decision it takes will follow the court’s final instructions once the document is available.
“Once the Commission’s legal department receives and thoroughly studies the CTC of the judgment, INEC will take an informed, lawful decision in line with the court’s directives.
“Until then, we cannot comment on the specifics of the ruling, and the public is urged to await the Commission’s formal position on the matter,” INEC said.
The court in Lokoja had earlier set aside a previous judgment delivered in December 2025 that directed INEC to register the Nigeria Democratic Congress as a political party.
The court said the earlier order was affected because a party that claimed ownership of the disputed logo was not part of the case when the judgment was given.
It then ordered that all parties return to their earlier positions and directed that the case be heard again with all relevant parties included.
Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) rejected the ruling and said it plans to challenge the decision at the Court of Appeal.
The party maintained that it remains valid and argued that the court should not reopen a matter it had already decided.
