Ighodalo wins Edo PDP primary election

Business magnate Asue Ighodalo has clinched victory by emerging winner in the Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary.

The businessman cum lawyer defeated top contenders, including Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu who polled just one vote.

The election, conducted in Benin City on Thursday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, saw Ighodalo securing 577 votes, securing his position as the ruling party’s gubernatorial candidate for the September 2024 election.

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, the Chairman of the Edo PDP Primary Electoral Committee, officially declared Ighodalo the winner and congratulated him on becoming the PDP’s candidate for the upcoming election in Edo State.

“I am actually, totally humbled.

“I thank the good people of Edo State. In the last four months, I have got to meet them more.

“Thank you Governor Godwin Obaseki for laying a good foundation.

“I promise to give my all for the state.

“I am only a tool in this process and I promise you all I will be a good tool. By the grace of God, Edo State will move from where Governor Obaseki stopped,” Ighodalo said in his acceptance speech.
