Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala reappointed World Trade Organization DG


The World Trade Organization (WTO) has confirmed Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for a second term as its director-general.

This decision was reached during a special General Council meeting, where member states approved her leadership renewal.

Her next four-year term will begin on September 1, 2025.

Okonjo-Iweala initially took office in March 2021, making history as both the first African and the first woman to lead the WTO.

Support for her reappointment came early, with 58 member countries endorsing the African Group’s proposal for her continued leadership.
