Nigerian film actor and producer Solomon Akiyesi has died in his sleep.
The news of his death was confirmed on Monday by Abubakar Yakubu, the president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN).
He told The Cable that the actor died on Sunday after going to bed and not waking up.
Yakubu also disclosed that Akiyesi’s remains have been taken to a mortuary in Abuja, where the incident happened. He added that more details about the cause of death are still being expected from the late actor’s family.
Akiyesi was born in Ososo, a community in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State. He began his journey in Nollywood in the late 1990s and went on to spend over two decades in the industry.
During his career, he featured in more than 100 films and earned recognition for his roles as a character actor and his work behind the scenes as a producer.
Some of the movies he appeared in include Marry Who You Love, Kiss My Pain, Joy of Nakasha, Heart of a Saint, Deadly Affair, Gen Z Wife, Olaedo The Fisher Girl, Pretty Liars, The End Is Near, and Desperate Ladies.
Following the announcement of his death, tributes have started coming in from colleagues and fans across social media, with many mourning his loss and remembering his contributions to Nollywood.
