A newlywed pastor, Rev. Abiodun David, and his wife, Funmilayo Bamidele, have been kidnapped by armed men while travelling back from their engagement ceremony in Eruku, Kwara State.
According to Daily Trust, the couple were travelling with four other people on Saturday when gunmen stopped their vehicle along the Iyemero–Eruku road in Kogi State.
Dada Sunday, spokesperson to the chairman of Ekiti Local Government Area in Kwara, confirmed the incident but clarified that the abduction took place in Kogi, not Kwara.
He explained that the local council became involved because the victims had attended an engagement ceremony in Eruku, where the bride was reportedly from.
The group was initially expected to pass through Isanlu, but the driver reportedly changed the route so he could drop off the best man and other passengers at Iyamoye.
The vehicle was subsequently intercepted on the Iyemero–Eruku route, with the couple and the other occupants taken away by the assailants.
The whereabouts of the four other passengers were unknown as of the time of the report.
Sunday said security agencies were working to find the victims and secure their safe return.
He also stressed that Iyemero is in Kogi State, following earlier reports that had incorrectly identified Kwara as the location of the abduction.
Meanwhile, calls to Kwara State Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, were unanswered as of press time.
