Popular Juju and Highlife musician Iyun Janet Ajilore, widely known as St. Janet, has died after a brief illness.
Her death was announced on Sunday by publisher and socialite Otunba Femi Davies, who disclosed that the singer died on Saturday. He did not reveal the nature of the illness.
St. Janet was one of the notable female voices in Nigeria’s Juju music scene, earning recognition for her energetic stage performances, distinctive style and ability to connect with audiences. Her songs were popular at social gatherings, celebrations and entertainment events.
Throughout her career, she helped increase the visibility of female artistes in the traditionally male-dominated Juju genre by blending traditional Yoruba rhythms with contemporary themes.
