WAEC Releases 2026 WASSCE Results
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates, while withholding the results of 167,486 candidates over alleged examination malpractice.
The examination body announced the release on Wednesday through its official X account and later provided details during a briefing in Lagos.
Candidates can now check their results after generating an e-PIN and serial number on the WAEC website before accessing the result-checking portal.
“UPDATE: 2026 WASSCE (SC) results have been released. Generate your PIN at http://waec.org and check your results now on http://waecdirect.org,” the examination body stated.
A total of 1,950,726 candidates sat for the examination out of the 1,959,668 candidates who registered from 24,207 schools across Nigeria, the Benin Republic, Côte d’Ivoire and Equatorial Guinea.
According to WAEC, 1,200,514 candidates, representing 61.54 per cent, obtained at least five credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics.
The council also disclosed that 1,687,378 candidates, representing 86.50 per cent of those who wrote the examination, earned five credits or more regardless of whether English Language and Mathematics were included.
However, WAEC said the number of candidates who achieved five credits including English and Mathematics dropped by 1.42 percentage points when compared with the 2025 examination.
WAEC said the results of 167,486 candidates, representing 8.59 per cent of those who sat for the examination, were withheld because of suspected examination malpractice.
Although the figure is lower than the 9.7 per cent recorded in 2025, the council said malpractice remains a concern.
The Head of the WAEC National Office in Nigeria, Dr. Amos Dangut, said the council recorded different forms of examination misconduct, including the use of mobile phones inside examination halls despite the ban and organised cheating in some schools.
He added that supervisors and invigilators found helping candidates break examination rules had been arrested and would face disciplinary action through the appropriate state ministries of education.
WAEC further announced that 1,834,695 candidates, representing 94.05 per cent of those who sat for the examination, had their results fully processed and released.
Another 116,031 candidates, representing 5.95 per cent, still have their results undergoing processing.
The examination body also released a breakdown of participation by gender. Female candidates numbered 997,267, representing 51.12 per cent of those who sat for the examination, while 953,459 male candidates accounted for 48.88 per cent.
WAEC said 1,213 candidates with special needs participated in the examination.
The group included 137 visually impaired candidates, 491 candidates with hearing impairment, 55 candidates with spastic or mental challenges, and 41 physically challenged candidates.
Dangut said the 2026 WASSCE was the second edition of the computer-based examination for school candidates.
He explained that WAEC introduced measures such as the Digital Examiner Mark System to speed up result processing, serialised question papers to reduce cheating, and a platform that allows candidates to generate e-PINs directly for checking their results.
The examination was conducted between April and June 2026, with 102,708 examiners taking part in the marking exercise across 88 centres.
Dangut also announced that this was his third and final briefing as Head of the WAEC National Office in Nigeria.
He warned that candidates sponsored by state governments that have not paid outstanding examination fees would not have their results released until the debts are settled.
WAEC said it remains committed to protecting the credibility of the WASSCE and maintaining examination standards across all participating countries.
