Senior Labour Party Official Resigns

Pastor Funke Awolowo, the granddaughter of Nigeria’s late statesman Obafemi Awolowo, has resigned from her position as a member of the Labour Party Executive Committee in Lagos State.

Before stepping down, she was the Head of the Mobilisation and Integration Team for the party.

In a statement addressed to Lagos State Party Chairman Dayo Ekong and shared with Vanguard, she explained that recent events within the party made it difficult for her to continue in good conscience.

Funke expressed concern that the integrity of the committee had been compromised and was being used for purposes that conflicted with her values, which she said had also harmed her personal reputation.

She noted that despite her dedication and sincere service over the years, she could no longer be part of a system where personal interests overshadowed true public service.

Although she has resigned from her position, Funke reaffirmed her commitment to contributing to Nigeria’s progress in other ways and thanked everyone who supported her during her time in office.

Her resignation comes four months after she publicly urged Labour Party supporters and various groups to unite for the country’s benefit.
