Tinubu makes 15 new appointments
President Bola Tinubu has appointed fifteen individuals as chairpersons and members of the board of the National Human Rights Commission.
The president also forwarded their names to the Senate for screening and confirmation
The request was presented during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who read the president’s letter to lawmakers on April 29, 2026.
The move is part of efforts to reconstitute the board of the commission in line with the law guiding its operations.
Among those nominated is Eze Anaba. Dr. Salamatu Hussaina Suleiman has been proposed as chairman of the board, while Dr. Anthony Ojukwu (SAN) is named to serve as Executive Secretary.
Other nominees listed include Roseline Tasha, Ambassador Adam Yubak Baku, Felix Lawrence, Edmund Chinonye, Chinonye Obiaku (SAN), Oluwakemi Asiwaju Okere-Odo, Professor Adedeji Ogunji, Kingsley Chidozie, Mohammed Adelodu, Maupe Ogun Yusuf, Otunba Francis Meshioye, Patience Patrick, and Hawwa Ibrahim.
The president stated that the nominations were made in line with the law that empowers him to set up the board, subject to Senate approval.
He added that forming a new board is needed to strengthen the commission and improve how it carries out its duties across the country.
Following the presentation, the Senate referred the nominees to its Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters for screening, with a report expected within two weeks.
If approved, the new board will oversee the commission’s work, especially in handling issues related to the protection of rights and ensuring accountability in Nigeria.
