2027 Presidential Candidate Attacked By Thugs

The presidential candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) for the 2027 election, Adekunle Rufai Omoaje, was attacked during a burial ceremony in Ekusa, Odo Otin Local Government Area of Osun State on Saturday but escaped without injury.

Omoaje had attended the event alongside top members of the party, including the Osun State Chairman, Kazeem Araoye, following an invitation from a friend who was burying his mother.

The ceremony was said to have gone on peacefully until Omoaje joined others on stage to dance while a popular highlife musician, Olu Mighty, entertained guests.

As the musician praised the AA presidential candidate, members of other political parties reportedly climbed onto the stage.

According to reports, members of the Accord Party, led by the Senior Special Assistant to the Osun State Governor on Youth Affairs, attempted to take over the stage.

Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) also moved onto the stage, leading to tension over the attention being given to Omoaje.

The disagreement soon turned violent as members of both political groups exchanged heated words.

The situation later developed into a clash, with suspected political thugs allegedly loyal to the APC and Accord Party reportedly displaying weapons, including cutlasses, knives and charms.

Omoaje was quickly removed from the venue by his supporters before the violence could reach him.

Several members of his entourage also ran for safety as the disturbance spread across the event.

Reacting to the incident, Omoaje condemned the growing cases of political violence in Osun State.

He called on security agencies to strengthen efforts to protect lives and property before, during and after the August 15 governorship election.

He also warned politicians and their supporters against actions capable of disrupting peace in the state and across the country ahead of the 2027 general elections.
