President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs following the resignation of Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to participate in the 2027 elections.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga on Wednesday in Abuja.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who previously served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, takes over as substantive minister as part of what the presidency described as efforts to reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy architecture.
In the same vein, the president nominated Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
Enikanolaiye, a career diplomat from Kogi State, currently serves as Senior Special Assistant to the president on Foreign Affairs and International Relations and has over three decades of experience in Nigeria’s foreign service.
He has held several key roles, including Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and served in diplomatic postings in Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London and New Delhi.
The presidency said the appointments are aimed at enhancing strategic engagement and strengthening global partnerships.
Tinubu congratulated the appointees and urged them to promote Nigeria’s national interest, advance economic diplomacy and safeguard the welfare of Nigerians at home and abroad.
