Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has said having a son to carry on his legacy is not a priority for him.
Dangote made the remarks during an interview with ARISE News anchor Ojy Okpe, where he also discussed the ongoing initial public offering (IPO) of Dangote Petroleum Refinery.
The IPO, which opened on September 14, is offering 4.1 billion shares at N525 each, with the refinery seeking to raise about N2.15 trillion. It is being described as Africa’s largest-ever IPO.
Asked if, at 69, he still desired a son to continue his family legacy, Dangote said it was not a priority, adding that he preferred to accept God’s plan.
He also noted that having a son was not necessarily a guarantee that a family’s legacy would continue, saying it could even produce the opposite result.
The comment has sparked conversations around succession and inheritance, particularly as Dangote has three daughters who are already involved in the operations and succession plans of his business empire.
