Senate appoints chairmen for regional development commissions


The Senate has appointed chairmen and deputy chairmen for committees overseeing newly established regional development commissions.

This follows President Bola Tinubu’s approval of bills creating the commissions.

Senator Babangida Hussaini will lead the Senate Committee on the North West Development Commission, with Senator Muntari Dandutse as his deputy.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has been assigned as Chairman of the South East Development Commission Committee, assisted by Senator Kenneth Eze.

Senator Titus Zam will head the North Central Development Commission Committee, with Senator Isa Jibrin as deputy.

In addition, the Senate has made changes to the leadership of some standing committees.

Senator Abdul Ningi now leads the Senate Committee on FERMA, moving from the Population Committee.

Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan, previously in charge of the Local Content Committee, will now oversee the Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organizations Committee.

Other appointments include Senator Garba Maidoki as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports Development, Senator Joel Thomas as Chairman of the Local Content Committee, and Senator Victor Umeh as head of the National Population and NIMC Committee after leaving the Diaspora Committee.
