APC Chairman Slumps, Dies
The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Oyewole Mayowa Solomon, has died after reportedly collapsing during a party reconciliation meeting in Iyara, the council headquarters.
According to Nigerian Tribune, Solomon reportedly collapsed on Friday while attending a meeting organized by a former chairman of the local government, Funsho Olumoko, as part of efforts to settle differences among APC members and bring the party’s stakeholders together.
The meeting took place at the Iyara Town Hall and was organized to address disagreements within the party and improve cooperation among its leaders and members ahead of future political activities.
According to reports from people familiar with the incident, Solomon suddenly became unwell and collapsed while the meeting was in progress.
His collapse reportedly caused confusion among the participants, who immediately moved to assist him.
Attempts were made to revive him at the venue before he was taken to a hospital in Kabba for further medical attention. However, he reportedly died shortly after he arrived at the hospital.
His death came as a shock to those attending the meeting, with party members, government officials and other stakeholders reportedly left distressed by the sudden development.
The reconciliation meeting was held against the background of disagreements among APC members in Ijumu Local Government Area as the party continues efforts to strengthen its structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Earlier in August, APC stakeholders in the local government had gathered in Iyara and expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to seek re-election.
The gathering also involved calls for members of the party to work together. However, disagreements reportedly emerged over the leadership of the local government, leading Solomon and some other officials to leave the meeting.
Olumoko, who organized Friday’s reconciliation meeting, is a former chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area and has been involved in efforts to resolve differences among the various political groups within the local APC.
