Barely 1 month into sentence, Bobrisky Appeals Naira Abuse Conviction

Nigerian crossdresser Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, popularly known as Bobrisky, has lodged an appeal against his conviction and sentencing at the Federal High Court in Lagos over Naira abuse.

Bobrisky’s appeal comes less than a month into serving out the sentence of his conviction. In the appeal submitted to Justice Abimbola Awogboro, Bobrisky sought to overturn the six-month maximum imprisonment sentence handed down to him.

Instead, he requested that the Court of Appeal replace it with a fine of N50,000 for each count against him.

Bobrisky faced a four-count charge related to tampering with legal tender, as per Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007. His conviction and sentencing were conducted by Justice A.O. Awogboro of the Federal High Court, Lagos Judicial Division.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the April 12, 2024 verdict, Bobrisky urged the court to reconsider the harshness of the six-month imprisonment term, especially considering his status as a first-time offender with no prior criminal record.
