Barcelona Star Lionel Messi has won the 2019 Ballon D’or ahead of Virgil Van dijk.
The prize completes a fine 12 months for
Messi, who won the Spanish LA liga with his club at the end of last season.
The award means Lionel Messi has now won more Ballon D’or awards (6) than Cristiano Ronaldo (5)
in 2018, Luka Modric ended the Ronaldo-Messi Dominance after winning his third consecutive Champions League trophy with club side Real Madrid and led Croatia to their first World Cup final, losing 4-2 to France.
Lionel Messi produced a stellar 2019 season with series of impressive displays as Barcelona claimed the Spanish LA liga title.
There where 30 nominees in total for the prize, organised by France Football magazine and voted for by 180 journalists from around the world.

helped Ajax to a domestic double and the semi-finals of the Champions League last season before joining Juventus in the summer for £67.5m.
