President Bola Tinubu has established a Special Presidential Investigative Panel to investigate and audit the financial records of many claims of corruption and diversion of intervention monies at the National Social Investment Programmes (NSIPA).

Ajuri Ngelale, a presidential spokesperson, said on Saturday that the panel would be led by Wale Edun, Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Honourable Minister of Finance.

Tinubu noted that the six-member team, which includes officials from various ministries, has been entrusted with undertaking a thorough evaluation and audit of the current financial frameworks and policy guidelines for social investment projects.

“This Special Presidential Panel is tasked with immediately undertaking a comprehensive review and audit of existing financial frameworks and policy guidelines of the social investment programmes with a view to implementing a total re-engineering of the financial architecture of the programmes with detailed modification to procedures guiding the programmes’ implementation moving forward,” the statement partly reads.

Dockaysworld reported that President Tinubu ordered the suspension of all administered programmes under the NSIPA.

He, therefore, constituted a ministerial panel to conduct a thorough review of the Agency’s operations with a view to recommending necessary reforms of the NSIPA.

Allegations of gross corruption and mismanagement of office have been made against the administrators of the intervention schemes in the past weeks.

Betta Edu, the minister of humanitarian affairs, was suspended by Tinubu on Monday in response to several accusations of corruption against her.

Thousands of people who work in the program’s main target industries—agriculture, health, education, and taxation—are direct beneficiaries of the NSIP, which was introduced by former President Buhari in 2016.

Additional SIP projects include school meals, cash transfer, TraderMoni, MarketMoni, and FarmerMoni.
