Former Lagos State House of Assembly member, Desmond Elliot, has apologised to Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, over his actions during the last All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in Lagos.
A video showing Elliot on his knees pleading with Gbajabiamila for forgiveness has gone viral on social media, with the former lawmaker also asking to be reintegrated into the APC in Lagos.
“I’m sorry, I have no excuse, I have nothing other than to say I’m deeply sorry and I am hoping to be cultured in the future,” Elliot said in the video.
Recall that Gbajabiamila had called out Elliot during the build-up to the primary, accusing him of nearly jeopardising his relationship with President Tinubu.
Gbajabiamila had also openly backed Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, Elliot’s competitor in the race for the APC ticket.
Elliot later withdrew from the primary, alleging intimidation and political pressure against his supporters. He rejected the outcome of the exercise and said he would challenge the process through the party’s appeal mechanism.
Odunuga-Bakare eventually emerged as the APC candidate for Surulere Constituency I, polling 11,385 votes against Elliot’s 270 votes.
